The media has been overflowing in Cannes with images of Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Uma Thurman, Penelope Cruz, Sean Penn and Rachel McAdams in gorgeous couture gowns, walking the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival and enjoying the delicious cuisine that can only be experienced in France. No stranger to the glamorous crowd and extravagant fashion, famed restaurateur David Barokas has catered to VIP celebrities at his numerous Cannes hotspots, who seemed to have a natural calling for the food industry!
In 2000, David started his first restaurant as he was finishing his law and business degree, being approached by a friend, who needed help with the family business. Following his gut, David partnered with his friend and invested his own money to restart what would become one of the most successful restaurants and lounges on the Côte d’Azur, Tantra—the must-see Cannes nightlife venue with a fusion menu that combines French and Asian specialties. Over the following ten years, David applied his initial recipe for success to one project after another, with restaurants such as Le Harem, L’Avenue, Le Pastis or more recently La Guérite, a beautiful beachfront restaurant on the Lérins islands. Notorious in the 1950s for the famous celebrity that flocked to the private beaches, La Guérite was secretly the unfortunate home of prisoner Eustache Dauger, better known as The Man in the Iron Mask. David also has involvement in many high-end nightclubs in Cannes such as Le Love, Discoteca, Le Dadada or world renowned Le Palais.
Discreet and methodical in his approach, David has always believed in the strength of the brand and its concept to achieve success. After such continuous success in his homeland, Barokas has turned his sights on to the United States, specifically New York City, which he’d learned to love during his multiple visits. Teaming up with French restaurateur and friend Nicole Rubi, David open a sister eatery to one of most beloved restaurant in Nice, France: La Petite Maison!
Located in Midtown West, the longtime fans of the French bistro will relish in the familiar French melodies and signature dishes, which are intended for sharing! Beginning with The Flavors of Nice, the menu offers a tasting of the restaurant’s signature Provençale staples including their fame Pissaladière (Artichoke Salad) and traditional Macaroni with fresh cream and black truffle risotto, among others. Fans of the New York eatery already include Leonardo DiCaprio, Natalie Portman, AnnaLynne McCord, Chelsea Clinton, Alec Baldwin and Naomi Campbell. With La Petite Maison, David turns his sights to the international market, with a food and atmosphere concept that he believed can be loved all over the world!
