Pia Lindstrom And Sandra WalserNow that the Parrish Art Museum has tossed its annual Spring Fling, you know that summer is just around the corner! Over 400 partiers came out to celebrate an evening without snow! Co Chairs Nancy Hardy and Susan Davis put on quite a bash – Hors d’oeuvres from Sant Ambroeus - luscious filet mignon toast, mini caprese kebabs and spicy shrimp. As always, there was an open bar featuring delicious specialty drinks, fine wines from Niche Import Co., martinis by Glacier Potato Vodka and Southampton Publick House ales courtesy of supporter Donald Sullivan.
Guests sipped and nibbled while poring over the wonderful offerings in the Silent Auction that include everything from designer handbags to glittering jewelry to business services – all donated by local companies.
Within a half hour of the party’s start, the main hall was packed with folks dancing to the live sounds of Todd Barrie Music. The dance floor never emptied as folks boogied down to the very last minute of the fabulous fete.
The crowd included a heady mix of year rounders as well as many from the summer colony who come out for the weekend just for this fete. Spotted in the crowd were The Museum’s Executive Director Terrie Sultan, Mayor Mark Epley & his wife Marianne, Jean & Martin Shafiroff, Phillip Kassover. Jean Shafiroff who once again chairs the Southampton Hospital Summer Party told us she will host a luncheon at Le Cirque next week to kickoff this year’s fete, A Tropical Paradise, the 53rd Annual Summer party to benefit the Jenny & John Paulson Emergency Department. Chuck Scarborough will serve as Master of Ceremonies at the Luncheon and Robert S. Chaloner Southampton Hospital President & CEO will be the afternoon’s Special Guest Speaker. Last year Jean broke the Hospital party’s fundraising record and will no likely do so again.
As always, there was lots of buzz about the restaurant-go-round and what new hot spots were on the horizon, as well as what, trendy retailers would be filling many of the still vacant storefronts.
On the eating scene there is reason to cheer with several East End favorites opening branches in the heart of Southampton Village.
The oh-so-popular and fun Red Bar on Hampton Road is spawning a sibling right at the beginning of Jobs Lane. David Loewenberg and Kirk Basnight have reportedly signed a deal to take over Featherstone’s from Jimmy Reister. The duo plans to open a café called Little Red, a more casual version of their Hampton Road outpost which will serve everything from burgers and steak-frites to roast chicken and fresh fish along with an extensive wine list, including lots of half-bottles. Look for it come mid-June.
Tutto Il Giorno, in Sag Harbor has been a major celebrity hangout since opening some four years ago. Housed in a charming cottage just off the harbor the Italian eatery is co-owned by Donna Karan's creative daughter Gaby Karan De Felice. Just several weeks ago a vacant restaurant on Southampton’s Nugent Street carried a sign coming soon “Tutto Il Giorno”. Can a Southampton edition of Donna’s Urban Zen store in Sag Harbor be far behind?
When David Waksman’s Hamptons Resorts & Hotels had to go on the market, everyone wondered who would pick up The Capri on the highway. Better know for its nightclub tenants and pricey bottle service, there was a lot of speculation of what comes next. Now we know, and its cabanas in the sand around the pool, The New York Post first reported that the buyer was a partnership between W South Beach & Steven Kamali of Surf Lodge fame. Now we hear the pair wants to add a little style to the motel like setting and are bringing in a world class operation to do so - the team behind the 20 something locations Nobu chain with outposts everywhere from Dubai to Moscow. The more casual version of Nobu Matsuhisa’s flagship will be called Nobu at the Beach.
Also comes news that designer Cynthia Rowley will take over one of the smaller outbuildings near the pool, so folks won’t have to even get in their cars to pick up a new bikini or party frock!
Lots more going on along Jobs Lane! Many of the longtime shops like J. McLaughlin are already ringing up hefty sales and the landscape along America’s oldest commercial street is changing a bit – for the better.
Now celebrating its 3rd year on posh Jobs Lane, jeweler Jill Lynn famed for her delicate custom designed jewelry has moved across the street with a view of Lake Agawam. Fans will see the same Palm Beach-y lime green walls and gleaming white showcase filled with her precious baubles which have become the rage with fashionable young Hamptonites. This season Jill will also launch Berry Brown’s collection BB Jewels of Gramercy Park. Like Jill, Berry does a lot of one -of -a -kind pieces, each of which incorporate a vintage element into a new design. Brown’s already been featured in O magazine and Brooke Shields is a fan and has been spotted wearing one of Berry’s vintage pendants. BB Jewels Gramercy Park Summer Collection will be unveiled in early June with an elegant party catered by the renowned Mark Fahrer Catering to mark her Southampton debut.
