Gomes has been part of the gaming industry in one way or another for 40 years. Whether he was tackling the mob or purchasing Resorts Casino Hotel, Gomes has consistently captured the attention of guests, media and industry observers alike. Over the years he created The Quarter at Tropicana, introduced the Tic Tac Toe playing chicken, and was fearless and innovative in his marketing efforts including a television spot that featured a President Barrack Obama look-a-like and billboards with butts and Fidel Castro – all catching the national spotlight. More recently he spearheaded efforts to bring new entertainment to Atlantic City, including Altantic City’s first rodeo at Boardwalk Hall.
“Dennis was whole-heartedly and unanimously selected to receive the Lifetime Achievement award at this year’s conference, making him an obvious choice for the recognition,” said Michael Pollock, publisher of the Gaming Industry Observer. “Very few people in Atlantic City and the entire gaming community could match the achievement that Dennis has amassed with the creativity, integrity, leadership and basic decency that he approaches every day and project with.”
The East Coast Gaming Congress Lifetime Achievement Award was presented by the Lloyd Levenson Institute for Gaming, Hospitality & Tourism to Dennis C. Gomes for his impact on the Atlantic City gaming industry as well as his overall achievements. This is only the second time the Congress has named an honoree for the award and only give out the Lifetime Achievement award when it is deemed appropriate. Last year’s award was given to Gary Loveman, Chairman, C.E.O and President of Caesars Entertainment.
